Mali Uromastyx Pairs Together?

Yonkerss Jun 18, 2009 08:44 PM

Hi,

Is anyone successfully (key word) keeping a pair (male/female) or trio (male/2 females) of mali uromastyx (U. maliensis) together in the same enclosure year round?

What size is your enclosure? Do you have any breeding going on?

I am considering getting a female mali uromastyx for my male (4-5 years old). I am planning on seperate enclosures since I have read typically pairs of malis do not co-exist unless the enclosure is quite large but figured I would get some more experience on this.

Thanks!

I've kept a pair together for over 8 years without any problems...but the cage is 6'long x 18"wide. Even with this size cage there can be problems...depends on their personalities.

They did breed and produce eggs...but the eggs were infertile because they were only brumated not hibernated.

Thanks for the info.

Was the pair raised together? How did you form the pair?

Would it be a good idea to get the largest female I can or go with a slightly smaller one and hope it matures into a female before being added with the male (and hoping all goes well).
