I came across a few of these while hiking in Tayrona National Park in northeast Colombia. I haven't found out what kind it is from my searching on the internet. Any ideas?

Hi Terry;

My immediate thought was "man that looks like a very cool Dendrobates auratus! But, auratus does not come from Colombia".

So I did a bit of digging (googling really) and found this. Amphibiaweb does say D. auratus is indeed found in Colombia.

I do not know the region where your park is located. It is possibly on the Panama side of the Andes? If so, then perhaps I got lucky!

OK. I googled further.

#1)The park is West of the Andeas and may share wildlife with Central America.

#2) Cover the body of the animal and look at just the legs in the first pic.

That is definitely dendrobates auratus!

all the best.

Thanks for the reply. I found a couple there with the same coloration and pattern. It's nice to know what they were.

This looks like Dendrobates truncatus

That doesn't look like an auratus to me, unless its an undescribed locale. It looks like a truncatus.
