My Male Tx spiny lizard just laid EGGS!!

skagitvalleygirl Jun 21, 2009 07:54 PM

The entire time we have had jack, we thought he was a male. He has blue on his throat, and his sides, and we thought that meant male, everything we have seen about spinies has said so, but yesterday he started laying eggs. I can't stop calling it a "him" but what is going on! Females can be blue too? We had two for a while, and both had blue, so we thought that it would be best to only have one male, and seperated them, then bam, jack is a chick, and has 5 eggs! Help! lol

Yep, spiny lizard girls can also have blue throat and belly patches, although they are much paler than those of males. If you held a male and female side by side, you'd see what I mean. The males' patches are a deep deep blue.

Congrats on the eggs!

I haven't seen any info on blue patches on females, and jacks get dark, then light... very weird. Anyway, I have no idea what to do with these eggs! Jack looks miserable, its been a few days now, and she barely moves!
Thanks for the help, makes me feel a little better
