coloration change in gravid female GTP

eric561 Jun 25, 2009 12:40 PM

Any thoughts on the coloration of the female GTP on the right? She is normally bright green like the male to the left. She is roaming around her cage at night the last few days and I think oviposition is right around the corner. Sorry for the fuzzy camera phone pic. Thanks.

Certainly looks hormonal blue. I just hatched my first clutch about a month ago.
Here is a link to the video of her being Gravid, I have other videos of the babies if you want to check them out.

My girl turned blue soon as she ovulated as seen in the video. It was very obvious. But if you think she is close to laying eggs Get the male out of her cage! She will strike at anything that moves including him once she lays her eggs! And should she get upset striking in a fit to protect her eggs, she can giggle them and damage or kill the eggs! The eggs must not be rotated at all once they are laid!

Do you plan on incubating or letting mommy do it?

Jason, thanks for the reply and congrats on your succesful clutch. They are actually my friends snakes. I will recommend that he removes the male ASAP. She has been active the last week or so. She has a couple of nest boxes in the cage with moist spaghnum moss and she has been checking them out. My friend set up a Hovabator to incubate the eggs. I will post pics after she lays which should be any day now.
