whats the deal with this new USFWS law!

GLZ Jun 30, 2009 04:25 AM

I just got a email from Thailand talking about some new ban, law or restriction USFWS to trying to do, which I guess will no longer allow any exotics bred in captivity to be imported/exported?? Its a new proposal I guess and it effects crocs for sure.

Fill me in ... who knows about it??

It has been brewing for some time. It bans all exotic imports on an "injurious" basis even before they are determined to be such. I will get you some specifics when I get to my office computer.

This is probably what im asking about. My friend over sea's asked me about it as he is worried about it and he only rarely sends/recieves animals to and from the USA.

Post the details on this when you can, we can figure out what can be done to stop it and since it involves import/export we can get international people involved in helping us stop it in its tracks.

You know there is still a big demand for the albino gators here in the USA but all the folks willing to pay a fortune for them already have them and the rest of us who dont have them are waiting to get them at a reasonable rate .. but from what I hear there is still big money to be made on these albinos over sea's.

Are you talking about HR 669? It is on the back burner...for the moment. It will almost certainly return in some form or other.

Or is there another, unrelated plan out there?
H.R.669 Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act

HR669 is the major one...it is being revised as we speak to make it more palatable, but will still probably try to cripple us. S373 and HR2811 are Python bills that are targeting pythons as injurious and would make it a Lacey Act violation to tranport, seel, etc across state/federal lines.
