HUGE Diamondback killed as Rattler (pic)

Patrickbull Jun 30, 2009 02:56 PM

I just recently recieved this pic. It was sent labeled as HUGE a rattlesnake killed in my hometown area. Well sadely enough it is not a rattlesnake. It is a Diamondback Watersnake and the largest I have ever seen! It wasd even said to be in a reservoir with fish yet it was killed as a rattlesnake. So sad. I just wanted to post a pic to show the size. I bet this is as big as this species can reach. Also shows how people in my area glamourize killing a big snake. Very sad.

people are ignorant, always will be. a big healthy diamond back water indeed. but how big, who knows? could appear bigger in the way that the picture was taken. even if it were a rattlesnake, why kill it?

It's probably not that large - it's just that it's on a stick in the foreground. I'd consider 4 feet to be in the "average" size range for a diamondback. And I'd say that snake is about 4 feet - perhaps a bit longer. Just out of curiousity, how big do you think the shell is on this Snapping Turtle I caught?

I was asking the question of the original person who posted.
But to end the suspense, the shell was 12 inches - I did not weigh the turtle.
sssnakelover did an even better job that I of showing how an animal's size can be exaggerated by holding it out in front of you.

the snake looks bigger than it is....he is holding the snake out closer to the camera on a stick. good sized water snake. but made to look bigger. idiots need to quit killing snakes...if they can't tell a water snake from a rattler....probably shouldn't leave the house!!!

pretty easy to make a snake look bigger....check out these photos of me and my garters....

We found one just maybe a bit shy of that one in louisiana, also dead on the road also, just after katrina. How big do they get? We were roadcruisin at night and it looked like a burmese in the road!
