axolotl unable to swim...

horsefish Jul 03, 2009 01:34 AM

My 7-year old axolotl has been having problems lately (this last week) swimming. She "crawls" about on the bottom of her aquarium and has been eating any food that I drop down to her just fine, but has been unable to swim above the floor of the tank.
Today I even watched her "climb" up some of the rocks in her aquarium and then fall off of them, but was unable to swim and simply fell to the bottom - I had to use a net to turn her right-side up b/c she was wriggling like a bug upside down. This is really pitiful and worrying, but it's too late to call a vet tonight...if anyone else knows what could be the problem or has had this happen before, please comment. I've owned her for a couple years and have never yet seen something like this.
Thanks!
