Made a new batch of hog slop for boxies

boxienuts Jul 11, 2009 11:43 AM

I ran out of the first batch that I made this year so I made a new batch this morning and tested it out they snarfed it up. This batch added extra eggs just in case any females have eggs developing. I use the whole egg crushed shell and all for added calcium. Here is the recipe I used today: these are food balls that contains 2 lbs venison burger, 2 lbs mixed vegetables(minced in food processor), 2lbs Wardley turtle sticks, 1/2lb mixed fruit, 6 eggs (whole eggs with crushed shells). They ingredients are mixed in a 5 gallon bucket and then made into balls and put on wax paper on a cookie sheet and then placed in the freezer. Once they are frozen they will not stick togather and can be placed a plastic baggies (enough balls in baggie for one feeding depending on how many boxies you are feeding) and stored in the freezer. Then just take out a bag and put it in the fridge to thaw the day before you feed. The boxies love it and it's balanced nutrition for them.

I was thinking this morning when I was making them that they looked pretty tasty, minus the turtle sticks and raw eggs and shells, and the fact that the meat is raw. So anyway I was thinking that I might actually try making this using venison burger, the blended mixed veggies and fruits, maybe even add some diced potatos, still add the eggs but not shells, make balls then put in the oven at 350 degrees for 30-45 min. I think they would be delicous venison stew balls, and they would be very healthy well balanced nutrition. Maybe make a little gravy to pour over the top!!! Can I get a hell yeah that sounds good? lol

Is the venison raw, and also the egg...hardboiled or raw? Also can I substitute any other meat for the venison..could never get that where I live. I do something ver similar with Mazuri instead of the venison.

its all raw, you could certainly sub in turkey burger and add whatever else you think is benifitial, mushrooms, collard greens, mulberries ect.

Just don't get the two different balls mixed up, Jeff... That's a good idea about egg. I'd never thought about putting in egg into their diet.

Hell ya,........ that does sound good. As a matter of fact my older son (26) was house sitting for us one weekend and thought that the "meatballs" in the freezer looked good and put a few of them in the microwave and cooked them up. He said they were really good,.......turtle sticks and all. LOL

I'm getting ready to make up a new batch also. I think the egg idea is a really good one.

BTW I got drawn to hunt elk again here in NM. I'm looking forward to my archery hunt & filling my freezer with more lean protein and "turtle food".
