Need some sudden, urgent advice please!

Hi,

I've had my carpet python (Jungle Jag crossed with Irian Jaya - very cute!) for a few months now. He's about a year old and I love him - the most social snake ever, he loves meeting people and hanging out with us at home!

Recently myself and my boyfriend have arranged to take this weekend away (3 nights) and I suddenly remembered about the snake! I don't have a timer for the thermostat or anything! There is a place which looks after snakes where I might be able to take him but it's a bit out of our way and I don't think I have time to get him there.

So my question is, is leaving him on a low temp (say 22 degrees C) for a few days going to do him any harm at all? I really don't want to do anything to upset him but it's going to be difficult to get him to the "snake sitting place" in time now. Please help!

Thanks so much

Caz

When was the last time it ate? If it has digested its last meal, 22C should be fine as long as you're confident there will be no sudden drops at night or anything like that.

What do you mean by a timer for the thermostat? If you just need a timer you can run to the nearest hardware store and you can buy a timer for like $5.

Hiya. Thanks for the quick response. Sorry my message was so rushed and panicked I'm surprised anyone managed to decipher it!

I have spoken to the pet store and the guy there agrees that I should leave the thermostat on a constant 22 degrees C. We're having really hot weather here in the UK and when I put it on 22 degrees for the night time temp the lamp is not on often as it is warm enough so I think I'll leave it on that - I dont want to fry him!

What does everyone else think? It's only 3 nights and I'll make sure he has a big bowl of water before I go. I'd usually drop him off at the pet store as the guy there will look after him but got a bit caught up in things this time!

Thanks

Caz

I think it should be fine.

I'd probably try to get it to 25 or 26C, but if it's only for 3 days, it should be okay... make sure it's got a nice tight hide to curl up into.
