Hello!
Just wanted to make a quick post to say hello. I am a new Iguana owner. I purchased my little guy (named him(?) magtheridon). His enclosure is custom made, it measures 70"Lx48"Hx20"W and for light I am using a 25" fluorescent tube for ambient light as well as a "full spectrum" bulb, a basking bulb and a 10.0 UVB bulb. Water is provided by a 13" water dish with a fountain in the middle. (changed often). I have a couple of digital thermo/hydrometers placed throughout the enclosure to keep an eye on things.

I am having trouble maintaining humidity level. I am currently misting every few hours, but since I teach at night it can be hard to keep the humidity level up when I'm not home. Does anyone have any experience with the automatic misters sold at petsmart?

I thought about designing a custom automatic misting system, does anyone have experience with that?

Thoughts?

Its made of 5/8" particle board. I tiled the bottom for easy clean up and I intend to tile the sides as well so I don't have to worry about the wood soaking up moisture.

THat may be part of the problem.

We built a misting system using a PVC tube that went over the top screen portion of the cages and was attached to a humidifier. I *THINK* you can find ones like this in amphib areas. Basically attach the PVC to the humidifier and run it up the top with holes drilled in the pipe. This allows constant humidity flow. Also if you have large amounts of screening on the cage that is where much of it is going.

Put a hand full of ice cubes on the screen top before you go to school.Easy'est drip system ever designed and cost nothing.Have some moss or a shallow pan to catch the drip.Cypress mulch works good to for humidity and does not mold.Dont worry about the cold water drops from the ice cubes. Vic....works good for lots of critters.

If I may add to your drip system idea...

I used the ice idea for a chameleon I was...er..gifted. It was a tad too cold for a chameleon so more experienced cham keepers suggested that I use a plastic water bottle. I set up a water bottle with a little hole on the bottom and I can adjust the lid to get the flow I want. Works like a charm and cost nothing!
