Crawfish Snake Found

Trolligans Jul 22, 2009 08:30 AM

I've never seen one of these in my area. My little brother caught it and called me over to help ID it. She's about 18-20 inches long and is gravid.

having a constant supply of soft-bodied freshly molted crayfish is the problem with these guys. unless you can get it to switch to a different prey item i would release it.

the female and the babies are going to be released into a nearby swamp. It's away from people, roads and houses, so it should be safer than where it was found.

Neither him nor I wanted to keep it since the food would be difficult (and we both have plenty of pets already). Our goal was just to keep it safe until it gave birth, which only too 12 hours.

I'm going to get some more pics today of the female and the babies, then it's off they go.
