Some recent additions

boxienuts Jul 26, 2009 02:34 PM

I recently aquired some new checkered garters for a new project. The granites I got from Scott Felzer, and the hypo female from Brad Chambers. The goal will be to produce a brighter yellow granite.
here is a pic of the granite which I think they are a very unique pattern morph. There are a lot of morphs in the snake world that are called granite, but I don't think any live up to the name like this snake does.

This is a red-sided female that I caught in my backyard yesterday, I have caught 5 this year in my back yard and let them go, but I am going to keep this one, I will breed it to my snow red-sided male to outcross and add genetic diversity, possibly produce some really nice looking albinos and snows in the future. I think she will show her colors and look nicer after I fatten her up a bit.

Those are some nice additions Jeff, I do love the granites!!! My granite female is a pistol, literally. She launches herself full force at me with mouth wide open and then slings musk at me every chance she gets. Meanest garter I have ever met!!!! I think you'll have a lot of fun with that project!

Wow, that just shows you that every snake is an individual with it's own individual personality, both my male and the female granite as well as the female hypo are as docile as can be and none have even musked or tried to bite me yet, and they are all eating mice off the tongs now, so far they have been a breeze to work with.

Sjoerd,
I would be happy to help you out next spring The granite pair are both yearlings now, so they should hopefully breed next spring if I can have them in good shape going into winter.

That would be freaking awesome...

I'm expecting they will be in Europe pretty soon, but no breeders seem to be very interested in them (Except for me....)

Why not be the first one to have them in Europe?

Would love to!
But I've no idea what needs to be done to import to Europe (Hamm shows for instance)
