Please help a noob out! (toad questions)

Hi, I recently caught this toad while on vacation in moccasin point marina (CA). I'm wondering what species it is and what kind of a setup I should do. It is currently in a 10 gallon tank with coco fiber substrate. It also doesn't seem to be eating. I breed discoid roaches and I'm wondering if I could feed it to the toad. Thanks!

Looks like a western toad...although I don't see a dorsal stripe...the photos won't enlarge... I wouldn't worry about it not eating right now. It looks plenty fat.. It probably just needs time to adjust. I feed mine large crickets and super worms, I hand feed him the worms : ) ... I'm not sure about the roaches, I suppose you could try...
They are very easy to care for.. Here's a couple pics of one of mine in a ten gallon tank with a simple setup. He's been in there for a few years, and is happy and healthy. I like to use moss for substrate, cause it's clean, doesn't stick to the toad much, and get the water dirty. .....Make sure you provide the toad with a large water dish at all times, or it will dry out and die... No tap water, the chlorine will kill... Only use well filtered water, or bottled spring water.

Check with your local fish and wildlife service first, to see if its legal. In a lot of states you need a permit to keep wild animals for an extended period of time.

The not eating could very well be from being stressed out from being caught and moved. Many wild caught animals do not do well in captivity. These are pretty active animals an should be given more space.
