dwarf caiman overweight

caimandog Aug 02, 2009 02:20 AM

I am considering purchasing a dwarf caiman that is 2.5 ft long. The current owner says its getting 4 rats a week. That seems excessive and the blurry pic of it looks like its packing some extra weight. My question is this a big risk to buy it? Or can I ust slowly reduce the caloric intake and not worry. Thanks

2.5 feet is a decent sized Paleosuchus, and the size of the rat being fed is a needed for an adequate answer. Rat pinks, fuzzz, weanouts, adults, burnt-out breeders.....each size inserted into your post changes the answer dramatically.

Personally, I would rather obtain a nice, healthy, well fed animal, as you know it will refuse food while it acclimates to its new home, especially in view of its size.
