Pest control near cages?

JackAsp Aug 02, 2009 01:33 PM

The new cage has an unexpected problem. It's not cricket-proof. Oh, they mostly stay in there anyway, since crickets aren't particularly arboreal, but there are enough escapees to be a problem, especially in an apartment building. What cricket-control products work best that are safe to have in a small room with reptiles?

Crickets will die if they do not access to water, so if there is none availble to them in your apartment, then they will not last but a few days anyway, you will find them on their backs sooner or later!

If you put a strip of packing tape, sticky side down and smooth side out around the inside top of the cage, they can't get out. They can't make it across that slick tape. You can also put a two inch or so swath of vegetable oil along the inside top, and that will provide a barrier as well.
