Every state has different regulations pertaining to commercial collection of native species.

As far as I know, and I try to keep up on these things so I don't break any laws, NO state allows commercial collection of eastern or three-toed box turtles any more. I think SC this year was the last to stop commercial collection of eastern box turtles. (I could be wrong, so double check with the state wildlife agency.)

In some native states it's legal to breed and sell captive bred offspring with a permit (such as MD and NJ), but catching a wild eastern box turtle to sell to someone else is illegal in all states to which they are native. In most states to which the box turtle is not native (such as CA), there's no regulation for keeping or selling them.

Katrina, SC recently imposed limits on commercial collection but has not banned the practice.
