Dumeril's Babies on 8/12

Hiss_n_herps Aug 14, 2009 12:23 AM

I was cleaning out rodent cages late Tuesday Night and walked past my female Dum to find these 2 babies. Low birthing but a couple of nice ones. Here's the real question? Who's the father? I got mom mid August of 08. I don't have a male Dum... I did put mom with my male Salmon Hypo in January when she appeared to be ovulating. He corted the heck out of her. Tail wraps, copulation and the whole nine yards (I do have pics). I've been told that they can retain sperm for several months but I can't get positive confirmation that she was with a male before I got her. I guess I'm going to be growing these two up to see what happens. If they increase in color as they get older like Salmon Hypo Columbinas then I might be able to assume that the Salmon was the dad. Yep, I know, everybody says impossible. Well, as I recall, years ago they used to say that about kings/corns, Bloods/Balls, Macklotts/Carpets, GRREEN TREES/Carpets, Burms/Retics, Carpets/Balls and many others too. Anyway, enjoy and don't beat me up for stating my opinion since we really won't know unless I put the Salmon Hypo and Dum together next year and get babies again... Only time will tell....

They look great!!!

Your right, only time will tell on the color. Definitely something to keep an eye on. If I were you I wouldn't get rid of them anytime soon.

They look to be 100% Dumerils. Not trying to come down on you at all, but as far as pics of a hypo courting your female dumerils, I have had many species court my hands and arms. Doesn't equal compatibility....that would be interesting though wouldn't it? LOL, congrats on the babies!

those are just baby dums youd be able to tell if they were hybrid, even 1st gen dum/mad ground crosses have alot of differances then pure ones, my guess would be retained sperm n your male columbian just got her to ovulate

I love my country but I'm scared to death of its government
Ya believe what you read cause it's all that we give ya
Cause all of history is written by winners
I'm engaged in a frenzy of mass self-destruction
I feed upon your famine to fuel my corruption
I'm wholeselling hatred and international incest
To carnivorous hyenas in a global theft fest
I've mastered the arts of death and foreign nations genocide
And those who turn on me commit national suicide

I'm the queen of the global dream
And I rule a declining nation
I sit and watch all the violent screams
From the throne of your desperation

The snake used stored sperm or parthenogenesis (unlikely). If a BC was involved it would be EXTREMLY obvious due to the total difference in pattern on the two snakes and first Generation hybrids in species of snakes that are quite different are quite obvious.

BTW they are beautiful.
