Some of my Nerodia Photos

asnakelovinbabe Aug 25, 2009 01:46 PM

Nerodia get such a bad rap. They really are sweet snakes. Sure, if you catch one out in the wild, it is going to tear you a new one. But in captivity they are 100% opposite. They are so incredibly laid back and just a pleasure to keep. Not to mention, gorgeous.

Nerodia erythrogaster erythrogaster, red bellied water snake (juvenile)

Nerodia cyclopion , green water snake (the rare red phase, and an extremely awesome one at that)

Nerodia taxispilota, brown water snake. My personal favorite normal for their incredibly crisp and neat pattern.

Nerodia fasciata pictiventris, florida banded water snakes, these are my 8 holdbacks from my cherry x pale hypo clutch. Why 8? By holding back so many, of different color patterns and varieties I will be able to figure out in the future what a baby will look like as an adult, as well as continue selectively breeding for different looks. There is so much going on with this group and it will be cool to see how they mature!

Here are the males

here are the females

Awesome pics of some beautiful Nerodia! I will always have a soft spot for them since I grew up catching northerns as a kid in NJ and kept many as pets over the years. I haven't kept any Nerodia in probably 30 years, but I still love 'em! Thanks for the pics.

nice pics.

I've had WC broadbands tame down in under 24 hours. They acted like CB corns within a week. But I'll never forget that first instant when I grabbed him and he grabbed me.

Beautiful Nerodia, SLB!

We have some gorgeous rhombifer in the Guadeloupe river nearby-I'm going to have to get around to collecting a couple gravid females and selectively breeding their nicest young.
Do you have any red mangroves? That's a form I've always wanted to work with.

thanks everyone! At the moment, I do not have any red mangroves but I would love some. I do have my cherry bandeds though, and boy do I loooove them!
