New to this forum...hope someone can help. Have had my Frilly for about 10 months all going great. Last three weeks it has been downhill. Eyes swollen shut, labored breathing when held or moved. Staying more toward bottom of cage. Been to the Herp vet, cultures are being run and is on baytril in the mean time.
What did I do wrong? Too hot, too cold too much humidity....I just feel awful and want her to feel better!
Thanks in advance......

I kept and bred frillies for nearly a decade and had some issues but never one like what it sounds like you are experiancing. What are the ambient temps of your cage? I would definetly keep her well hydrated, lizards sometimes will not find the water bowl and drink from it. My frillies use to drink from a pump plant spray bottle with the setting on a jet stream, common sense applies, use warm water so you do not make the frillie shy away and dont powerwash her either, use a gentle soft stream of water by the lips and they usually drink it. Good hydration is even more important when useing medications. Please keep us posted and good luck with her.

I had the exact thing happen to mine. Even with adequate heat, humidity, no external stressors, etc. I have noticed that my frill doesn't do well when fed rodents heavily. You may consider getting a colony of roaches. The blood panel on my frill showed elevated white blood cell counts, showing some type of internal infection. I gave him sub-cutaneous injections of antibiotics for 10 days or so and he popped right out of it. He looked REALLY bad. I almost had him put to sleep at one point. Keep up with supportive care and if I can remember what drug he recieved I will pass that along to you.

Good Luck!

I would cover the basics, temp, stress [which can be from seeing a dog/cat or snake within visual distance] or light cycles, usually boosting the heat a bit helps but good hydration is very important when useing any meds or you can shut down kidneys, liver functions. Or if you have more then one together take the healthy one out of the cage and keep the sick one isolated in the same cage it is use to. I would ask your vet about useing panacure for potential parasites as well, panacure also kills some proatazons and is much safer then other meds. What is the appetite of the frillie? How long ago was its last feeding? Prevention is key with any lizard because by the time they show symptoms it is to late, not always but in alot of cases. You would be surprised what a protazoan problem can do to a frille and how simple it is to treat. Keep us posted with lab results and Good luck, Bob
