CO2 chamber isn't it the same thing

I've been reading about co2 chambers and was about to make my own when it occured to me that since co2 is what we all exhale wouldn't it be the same thing to just seal the mice in an airtight container and let them run out of air? When you asphyxiate you run out of oxygen. when we use co2 chambers we remove the oxygen. seems to me like its the same thing. Ami missing something here?

The CO2 chamber will speed up the process and is considered more humane. IN an airtight container they would struggle.
