Hi all,

I first time post pic of my friend's skinks,he kept them almost 3 years and they are very healthy but I think they are a little fat

I asked him to check the article http://www.reptilechannel.com/reptile-magazines/reptiles-magazine/may-2009/blue-tongued-skink-sexing.aspx,

But we still can figure out their sex.

Please help us tell their sex. Thank you so much.

they don't look particularly fat to me, skinks are just built like that.

Has he been housing them together? If they have been co-existing in the same tank for 3 years then I'd be willing to bet they are not two males!

what kind of Blue tongues are they, btw. I love the coloring, very different from mine!

3 fire skinks, 1 blue tongue skink, 2 plateds, 2 beardies, 1 mali uromastyx, and a wide assortment of geckos.

Skinks are not the easiest to sex to be honest. The only way I was able to sex mine was by finding sperm plugs in the cage. Look for these especially in or around their poop. They will look like long whitish strings with a fatter 'head' than the rest of it. They are almost always found in pairs as well.

Are you in the US? I ask because I'm trying to locate some T. multifasciata at this time.

As for sexing, the advice given above is correct. Look for sperm plugs. The males drop these frequently enough you should see them if you look. Females obviously don't leave these behind. The other methods, eye color, tail base width, and head width aren't very accurate.

Wow! We don't see Centralians too often -- In the USA, or Australia for that matter. Are you in the USA? Sorry I cannot be of help about the sex.

Blotch Nov 19, 2009 05:45 PM

That's simply not true.

Centralians aren't hard to get a hold of in Oz. How do you know they are rare here? I'm an australian buddy! I know they are quite easy to get a hold of.

So instead of speaking absolute Bull Shizen, just comment on what you know - not what you want everyone to think you know.

Hello, Blotch.

I never said they were hard to get or rare. I simply said we don't see them too often, and we don't. Of all the Aussie folks who post pictures or email me, we've seen Westerns and Centralians the least (aside from Pygmys of course). People who make rude comments like you make it difficult to post on these forums. It is a shame.

Blotch Nov 22, 2009 07:47 PM

Uhh, you made out like you knew exactly what you were talking about. face it mate, you have no idea. Do us all a favour - if it's your opinion - state it - cuz it's certainly not a fact.

And i believe to mislead and lie to people is the height of rudeness. Maybe you should not speak about things you know nothing about or as I said - state that what you are saying is in fact your opinion.

;p; seems to fit the owners personality

Blotch Jan 19, 2010 09:14 PM

hahaha!

Nice one - you don't know Team America??? - anyway, i just get sick of so called experts spouting crap when they actually know very little.

please excuse the aggression, I just see too much of that, and it's even worse when the same people give out shonky advice that could actually lead to the demise of the animal.

Granted this is not one of those cases, but the point is still valid. Unless you know for certain - state that it's opinion, otherwise if it's in regards to the health and keeping of the animals in question and something goes wrong - then the advisor is partly to blame for any ill effects as he/she has advised the person based on apparent fact when in reality it's just their personal opinion.

I apologize for coming across in such an over the top, aggressive manner, but I think I've explained why.
