Probably dumb question but this is my first snake. Can I lay the heatlamp on top of the mesh on the terrarium? It is the common heatlamp sold at pet stores. Didn't know if it was a fire hazzard. Thanks.

The simple answer is yes. However, depending on the species in question and the caging set up I would recommend a heat mat/pad.

I have a Rosie boa ( not sure of locale) in a 25 gal terrarium with wire mesh for the top. I have a heat pad but as my home stays very cool it did not bring up the daytime temp high enough. I try to keep it at 80-85 during day. Complete newb so any suggestions are welcome.
