Hi, can anyone give me any info or point me in the right direction to get info on brumination?

My Candoia bibroni bibroni are in their native country and at their natural temperature (winter over here, 18 - 19oc at night) and have not fed for 2 months.... normal?

I assist started them last night, they did feed but in slow motion and the insides of their mouths are blue, not pink. I have now put a heater pad in their tank, which I wouldn't normally do, to aid digestion.

Thanks for any input

Hi Helen,

its not unusual for snakes to go off feed during this period and C.b can go along time without food with having such a slow metabolism.

Are these the ones you were hoping to breed with?

I wouldn't assist them as they are in they're natural cycle so just let it happen...

I'll send you an e-mail as well it would be good to see how your lot are doing.

Cheers Matt

Thanks Matt,

Always good to have reassurance from someone else when you're working in isolation!

What's interesting is that they have not done this in past winters: they are now 4 years old and I guess their metabolism is changing from juvenile to adult. My third snake is a year younger and is still feeding voluntarily, although not as frequently as in summer.

They have all been shedding though, so I suppose not all metabolic functions shut down in the cold.

Anyway, I'll now leave them in peace until we all warm up.
Cheers
Helen
