Emory's x Suboc Hybrid?

goyotle Sep 22, 2009 03:12 PM

I'm curious to know if these 2 can be crossed?
Since Bogertophis used to be Elaphe & Emory's still is, does anybody know if they can be successfully crossed & would the hybrid young be viable, also any idea what they would look like?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks-I hadn't heard of any either. Maybe when my female Suboc catches up to my Emory in size, I'll make a little experiment of it!

I do know that the breeding season is a little different for subocs they tend to breed later like early july.I have a mountain that I hunt and both are there .I am not a hybred fan but this would be a cool experiment.

One of the things that makes subocs unique is their unusual chromosome number-40 compared to 36-38 for other native colubrids. Since chromosomal pairs won't match up, all the eggs from these crosses would be infertile or incapable of normal development.
