herps Oct 03, 2009 11:23 PM

ok so today my buddy looks into my pictus gecko cage n points out that my female laid an egg, i did not have my incubator set up right then so i left it for a bit, i look down later to see the female eating the egg, has anyone ever had this happen or even know why?

I used to have it happen on occasionally. I figured they were probably infertile eggs.
It's been almost 10 years since I bred pictus though.

This does sound odd. My only thought is that the egg was infertile, was walked on, crushed and the adult did what most animals would do, take advantage of a food source.

I have heard of this before in other writings, and as said before generally it was with infertile/damaged eggs, we have not experienced this with any of our geckos though, as usually they have been mated prior to producing eggs.
