Alligator Set Up

stxlatina78 Oct 05, 2009 07:36 PM

Need a little help on setups. My gator is still fairly small. She has gone from am aquarium to a pond and now seems at home in my bathtub. Weather has gotten cool here and can't keep her outside in the pond not to mention she tries to jump out. Just need a little assistance considering I ran into a little snag in my plans. Any help is greatly associated.

my caiman is housed in an enclosure in my basement it is a pond dropped into a platform with a shelf over half of it to crawl out on. Elevated a little so he can swim under the platform.

My alligator is housed in an enclosure in my reptile room. It is 8" of water, submersible filter that serves as a chew toy, with a platform that serves as a basking area and a hiding area. The platform is made of plastic that looks like wood and is built like a table.

Living in FL, heating the water is never really a concern. Room temp is 80 in the summer, never dropping below 68 in the winter. He has a mercury vapor light for basking which also heats the water.

I have my american gator in a room with a large pool with water. I do not filter it but do complete water changes often. I keep an air stone in it as well as a supply of fish (which he likes to chase and eat). Outside of that he has a basking area and a surrounding fence to the enclosure. Works out very well.
