Here are two similar turtles that I own. I have an idea of what they are but I would like your opinion. I have owned Leonardo since he was a tiny baby and that is when I named her. Yes, I know it is a female...now. The other is new and I know it is a she. So help me out please.

Leo I would say is a Florida penninsular cooter. #2 looks like some type of red-bellied cooter - probably a Florida red-bellied.

I always thought that Peninsular Cooters spots from the bottom of the carapace don't go all the way around.

I would say that both are Florida red bellys Pseudemys nelsoni. Give them lots of dark leafy vegetables

They are both female, but they are both so different in shape and color. I always felt that Leonardo was a Florida redbelly (even though his belly is very yellow) and the other turtle was another type of Redbelly like the Northern. Its not completely clear in the pictures, but they are very different. I will try to post some daytime pics for a better assessment.

Leonardo is a Peninsula Cooter, Pseudemys peninsularis

Your other turtle looks like a Suwannee Cooter, Pseudemys concinna suwanniensis, to me.

Do Peninsula Cooters have markings on the bottom of their plasterons? Leonardo has markings. When he was a baby, he had a very visible smiley face.

Occasionaly the will be spoted. I agree with Dan either suwanee or florida red belly going for the first tough, Leo is a penn.

Is there a definite way to identify the difference between Suwanee or Florida Redbelly? Is there something I can look for? His belly is kinda reddish.

Hello:
Both are Red-Bellies and both look like young girls. They will eat quitew a variety of food but it looks like they are doing well and growing nicely.
Have a Great Day!!!
