MR_ANACONDA28 Oct 08, 2009 01:02 AM

Hi yall, Been a while. Figure Id give ya an update. My green that I got from Kelly a few years back is a full grown monster now. He is 13'4" and WELL over 100lbs. He is as docile as can be a real joy to have as a pet. I did sell my Yellows, they just refused to mellow out and I was tired of being bit, constricted and having the unmentionables sprayed all over me. Kelly, I sent you an e-mail, the last one I had. Looking to now get a female green now. I will try to post some new pics asap.

Congrats Eric! Thanks Awesome, I purchased my first green male recently and I must agree, with the right amount of time and patience they are awesome. Far more mellow than some of the other huge boids, and a blast to work with!

I would love to see some pics of you full grown boy! Mine is only a baby..

Kellys snakes are nothing short of awsome. I probably dont handle him enough as i should but i dont believe that would change anything in his personality. I actually hold him, like drapped over my shoulder three to four times per year. The rest of the time it is for cleaning and feeding purposes, I dont feed in cage. He lets me rub his head, on top and bottom with no flinching on his part. Really the only reason I dont hold him more than I do is because of his weight. He is a MONSTER. Already reached his top lenght around a year and a half ago and is now put on the ol' middle age spread. Here is a pic of him right after i got him from Kelly so very long ago.

Eric,
Thanks for posting. That would be a huge male, I would definitely like to see a photo of him. Was he from our 2003 or 2005 litter? I know he was from one of those two, but couldn't remember which one.

That is an incredible if not impossible size claim for a 4 to 6 year old male green.I have been involved with anacondas for over 20 years and i have never seen a male anywhere near that size,i know kelly or judd has a male of about 70lbs and i have owned a male that got to about 65lbs but these specimens were both well over 10 years old.Anacondas are slow growing snakes and males attain far smaller maximum sizes than females-i doubt whether a female could attain that length in that time let alone a male. Are you sure about the sex of this snake? Please post a picture of your snake.

I would agree for certain if this were a male. Males with good growth will take at least 5 years to hit the 10 feet mark and growth slows considerably after they reach 5 years of age. The growth trajectory of Jud’s male was very similar to his son’s, which I raised from our first litter. My male reached the 10 feet mark in his 5th year, and then slowed considerably after that. He is now 8 years of age and just over 11 feet.

I have 3 older females which I have raised from neonates to large adults and all were between 13 and 13.5 feet by their 6th year. These are the growth rates I have experienced and are representative of individuals that are feeding well and very consistently, but not power fed. Many greens raised in captivity will grow at lesser rates than these due to being either sporadic feeders, not fed frequently by the owners, or just being genetically smaller individuals. Eric could possibly have an extremely exceptional male, but it could also be a female. It would be interesting to see the spurs on this green. A female of that size would have virtually no external spur structure at all, and a male would have considerable external size to its spurs.

I never had him sex'd. I took Kelly on his word that it was a male. Ive been raising snakes for a very long time myself and I know exactly how the anacondas growth and metabolisums are. I didnt get into the biggest and baddest of all snakes on a whim, I did my research and hunted down the best breeder I could find with the best snakes. I dont plan to breed him at all and the only reason why I want a female is the pure size of them. Plus for me feeding a big snake is alot cheaper than feeding a small one simply because I get rabbits super cheap. That doesnt mean that I over feed because they eat around one week or so after deficating. Everything that I have read about anacondas tell me that if in fact it is a male he is huge, BUT it also states that some anacondas get alot larger then average size.

What do the spurs look like on that guy? Are they immediately and easily seen, or recessed out of sight?

Kelly

MR_ANACONDA28 Dec 09, 2009 12:27 AM

Kelly, His spurs are very easily seen.I think part of the reason he got this big this fast is that he kinda skipped the rats all together. I breed rabbits and he started eatting baby rabbits and has never even seen a large rat. My cages are very large and set up with large heat penels for ambient and mats for hot spot, both are controlled digitally.
