One month after rescue...

AmaraGayle Oct 15, 2009 09:06 PM

and I'm proud to report no more biting, still no clue what she is genetically...and is that yellow I'm seeing??? She'll never be a screaming showpiece but she's still dern interesting, can't help but wonder if the original age('07 hatch) was wrong...or if this is just diet-related stunting that's beginning to 'reverse' itself...only time'll tell I suppose.

Regrowth of tail section has been AMAZING -- look at her a month ago versus now

Enclosure picture is just bragging, built it myself^^

Whoops -- no full enclosure pictures posted, can't brag if it's not here!

Speaking of, here's the picture from the day I got her, one month ago -- look at the tail damage from the retained sheds!!! It's finally filling out

Very nice work! Looks like a healthy/happy carpet of some sort now!

if you get a close up of the rostral scales, scales just above the nostrils i could take a good guess what it is but im gonna go out on a limb and say its a jungle costal mix : )

That can easily be done, give me 15 minutes!

here, take a shot at her - my original guess was IJ/Jag, quite possibly a sibling...but it isn't like she can wave a flag and tell me herself haha!

ok so identifying carpets under one year old is really hard but im guessing yours is about a year so i think were good. immediately you should recognize that distinct snub nose that is characteristic of a coastal. however pure coastals have large flat square rostral scales. yours does not so we know its a mix. Irian jaya head pattern seems to be dominant over coastal and yours is distincly coastal so im gonna rule that out. jungles have narrower more pointed and angular rostral scales yours does not have this but seems to have a combination of coastal and jungle characteristics, and there is something to be said for that yellow color too! It is unlikey that it is a mix of something unusual like bredli, spilotes or jag because that would be evident in the color and pattern. Its a pretty safe bet you have a jungle coastal mix. This is a natural integrade and these individuals tend to be very hardy. hope this helps

I was told she was hatched in '07 but find it hard as all getout to believe -- original owner bought her as a male via a large petstore chain, so there isn't an ounce of telling what she is.

Thanks for the genetic guesstimate
