WANT TO SEE A "REAL" BLUE GPT?

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Oct 16, 2009 09:47 PM

I have been converting my slides to digitals and came across this pic of me in Bangkok, Thailand about 1982. Mr. Dang of Siam Farm had this beauty. I offered him $5,000 for it but he would not sell it. To this day I have never seen another like it. When I think of Blue GPT'S this is what I think of not what most people call blue ones...

$5,000? That is how much breeders are selling faint blue gtps for. I have never seen a blue gtp like that. How old was it? Because I have heard of older gtps getting a lot of dark blue through out.

Remember this was in Thailand in about 1983...This had a white belly and was a blue morph and NOT a hormonal induced blue one...

Based on the size of the animal you posted Tom claiming it is a blue morph and not a hormonal blue seems well to be honest ridiculous.

Based on the size I would say it is a female which would also lead to the fact it had possibly been reproductive meaning it was a hormonal animal.

Not trying to be mean man just calling it as I see it.

It is a sweet looking animal!

I'd bet MONEY it wasn't as Ron Tremper photographed the SAME GPT in 1978 and Dang NEVER bred anything in his life. Also the snake DID NOT look like hormonal change part blue snakes you put a pic of up. This Snake was SOLID BLUE just like this Green Iguana I have. It takes yellow and blue to make the color green. Look again or perhaps ask Ron..Just because you HAVEN'T SEEN ONE does not mean they don't exist. Did you ever see one of these? Do you think this 15" Iguana has produced LOTS of clutches. Not trying to be mean BUT just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it's not true. It's a big world we live in for those of us who have traveled it...LOL

Also Greg, where did I claim on the post it was a blue morph? The fact is I didn't although I suspect it was as Dang told be he had it since it was 2' long and he said it was blue then. THE ONLY WAY TO KNOW FOR SURE WOULD HAVE BEEN TO BREED IT BUT HE WOULDN'T SELL IT. I sold Paul Miles a pair of incredible hormone produced blue GPT'S about that same time frame that were MUCH bluer than the pic you posted but only for several hundred dollars each. I certainly wouldn't have offered him $5,000 for it had I thought it was a hormonal blue GPT...THANKS...Again though when I see "Blue GPT'S" offered for sale I think of this one and the offered ones just don't measure up to that snake in Bangkok...

I'm with Greg on this one. This "looks" to be a hormonally blue female due to its size. Though again "looks" is the key word here.

I feel that this photo is being pitched as a one of a kind animal. While s/he is most certainly unique it's a disrespect to people who work with blue line animal to think this animal is one of a kind.

Mr. Blue

Arctic Blue

Mojo

Sky

This list goes on...

I believe the reason you're not seeing any of these animals offered for sale is that no one is selling them (really it's that simple). 5k for a solid non hormonal blue animal is a AMAZING deal. You're looking at 5k for unchanged neonates from a blue line and 10k for something ready to breed.

In the next 5 years you'll start seeing more and more blue chondros. It just takes awhile for blood lines to work their magic.

That animal posted is cool.... theres just other cool animals over here in the states.

LOL,
Cool your jets Tom!

You called it a Blue morph in your 1st reply to your thread!

The male I posted is a sibling to the ones Julian posted, and guess what he is the real deal the shot I posted was taken in doors with OK lighting at best.

One last thought morphs reproduce them selves in offspring, which the male I posted a pic of has done with a 100% unrelated female.

BTW with the size image you posted seeing anything is rough and with out a pic some some verification that it is the same animal.
What you say and what others have told you are hearsay.

Greg, I don't care if it was or not and why do you? Who cares as it was in the early 80's and is no threat to you, them, or anyone else. That's the best I can do with the pic as it was made from a 35 milimeter slide. YOU TAKE YOURSELF WAY TOO SERIOUSLY AS IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU OR I THINK ANYWAY. IT'S A MOOT POINT....

First the snake is I'm sure long dead. It was posted on a SLOW forum intended to be of interest to the folks who persuse it. If I've stepped on any toes, sorry but in ALL fairness If I did you take yourself way to seriously. I KNOW WHAT I SAW AND I'VE SEEN A FEW IN FACT I'M SURE MORE THAN YOU HAVE. This was a SOLID BLUE SNAKE PERIOD. Geez if a snake from the early 1980's offends you how do you enjoy your hobby\business. Your GPT'S are beautiful and certainly I don't see how a pic from the 1980's would affect what your doing now or how it's disrespectful. Again if you think it is you need to chill out. Personally it wasn't intended at you and I don't really care if you like the pic or not. I don't even know who you are nor do I care. I think your GPT'S are BEAUTIFUL but what does that have to do with a pic taken in Bangkok in the early 80's? Are you trying to say that a Blue Morph WC GPT is an impossibility? If so I think your dead wrong. Over the last 40 years I've seen a lot of weird wild morphs pop up on a plethora of species...

Maybe you should re read my post Tom, in no way did I do anything other than offer you an opinion.
You are the one who blew up.
I know who you are and know you have seen lots of cool stuff.
My point is you can not be 100% positive of your statements.

My bad for pointing that out!

BTW the snake that Julian posted where two men are also in the pic.
That is a WC blue male!
So it not that I do not think it is possible but based on the industry even back in the 80's and how things are working genetically now.
It is less of a possibility the snake you posted was in fact a blue morph.

Again no ill will meant man!

Take it how you will!

My response was because you said it was, and I quote, "ridiculous" to say that it was a Blue Morph when in fact I hadn't at that time said that in the first place. Again Greg it was only posted to entertain folks on a slow thread not to disrespect you or anyone else. You are the one that said I was "ridiculous". A much better response would have been "I doubt that was a morph just hormonal induced Blue One". Heh, you might be right but I don't think so based on what I have seen. Many factors make me think that way and indeed I offered a LOT of money back in the early 80's for it. I was willing to take that chance but again who cares? It is simply a 30 year old pic of a GORGEOUS GPT that I saw back in the day...

It's a bit difficult to convey a tone over text. Im not offended or was riled up one bit. Sorry if my post struck you the wrong way... I'm not a mean or hyper active person, in the least...

No problem, I thought you said I disrespected what you were doing[actually the post says that] but I guess I'm mistaken. Certainly I didn't mean to do anything but just post a pic of a blue GPT from 30 years ago...thanks and no offence meant or taken

Hi Tom,

I recall when you showed the slide of this blue green tree python many years ago at the NOAH meeting in Ohio, I was just a little kid, in the mid 80's.

Pictured here is one of my hormonal blue female green tree pythons.

Truly,
