Sexing Mali Uromastix

gachuckwallas Oct 17, 2009 04:24 PM

I am new to Uros and I have just received a three year old Mali that was professed to be a female. I think it is a male .It is black with a yellow occelated back.It is robust in build and has small to medium femoral pores about the relatve size of a female chuckwalla or iquana. I am not experienced with sexing agamids and the question is really about the relative size in Mali Uros.

While Malis have male mimics among females, males defintely have enlarged pores next to females they also have a bulge due to the hemipenes at the base of the tale. The best demonstration I have seen of this is whereby the tail was turned up while the animals was on all fours to reveal the bulge.
