Handling a veiled chameleon?

shelledfriends Oct 23, 2009 02:47 PM

Hello,
I have read that veiled chameleons don't like being handled. Does this mean you try to never handle them or does it mean you just don't handle them everyday? How often can you handle a veiled chameleon without stressing it to death?

Thank you.
Michael

Most of them do not like it ,some tolerate it.The body language will tell you right off the bat...babies generally scramble as quickly as possible to get away and even plop to the ground...larger ones open mouth, hiss and try to get away. You don't want to know how hard an adult angry cham.can bite. Then there are those few who will eventually slowly climb on to your finger,up your arm, etc. Not many in any group, and even some of those are fearful. So it's not completely unrealistic to have a "tame"one but they are not the norm.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. My 11 year old daughter has been asking for a veiled chameleon and I am looking at info to see if it is a right choice and looks like it isn't.

Thank you.
Michael
