I feed a small tegu every day and an adult every other day. I feed them until they walk away from their food or until the lateral fold on their bellies disappears.
I haven't had fed any of them bugs in years, so I can't really answer the other question. It seemed that they could easily knock out close to a dozen good sized crickets daily when they were small.
Wanted to add...I didn't necessarily let them gorge on supers since the hard exoskeleton can be an issue. I also rotate and don't tend to feed the same food item two days in a row.
ok thank you so much! what other food items did you offer when they were young? like appropriatly size rodents, eggs, ground turky or what? and when did you start offering fruits and vegatables?

As for meats, I offered pinkies then moved up to fuzzies, weanlings, etc as quickly as possible. Then I added quail chicks. I also fed chicken gizzards, hearts, liver, chopped chicken chunks, fish fillet, ground turkey, and lean ground beef.
Since I had an adult tegu at the same time, I offered the same kinds of fruit. I offered them from the beginning, but I guess it wasn't until a month or two that she began to eat them regularly. She has enjoyed cherries, grapes, banana, berries of any kind, melon, papaya, mango, peaches. Each is different. I have one that likes honeydew, one that likes cantaloupe, one that likes anything. They aren't too keen on veggies, but sometimes I hide a tad in their ground turkey meatballs.
do the skins and seeds on/in the fruit go through their digestive system ok?

They digest well if the heat is optimal and given the opportunity to exercise. If I feed grapes, then I feed seedless and cut them in half or pop them open just to make sure. Melons and such are also cut. But I'm sure the seeds would pass, just the way they were intended.
