Identify this tree frog

rdperry5 Oct 24, 2009 11:15 AM

This frog has recently taken up residence on our porch. Can anyone help me to identify what kind it is. I have an idea, but I would like some more input.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like it's either a Barking Tree Frog or a Cuban Tree Frog. I'd say it looks more like a Cuban, they get a bit larger than other tree frogs in the states, although I'm not very familiar with either species (I'm going off info from my North American herp field guide). It seems the Cuban was introduced to Florida, while the Barking range includes more of the southeast, going from south Mississippi along the east coast up into North Carolina and possibly a bit of Kentucky. Hope this helps.

Looks like a Cuban treefrog, an invasive species that may feed on smaller native treefrogs in Florida.

OUCH! Thanks for the info. I think it has moved on. We have many green tree frogs on our porch, I wouldn't want them to get eaten.
