Female Behavior

volleyballjoe Oct 24, 2009 03:14 PM

Question to green breeders,
Do females go through hormonal changes that would make a normally calm female defensive? My female is normally very calm (except during feeding), I put the male in with her for a couple of weeks and then removed him when the male and female both went into shed. A couple of days later, pryor to going into the blue she became very defensive. Is this normal, is it a good sign? I am planning on putting the male back in with her once she sheds. Is that a bad idea?
Thanks for any advice.
Joe

In all of the breedings I have been involved with I have never seen that type of behavior. I have seen females appear to be irritated with males that were attempting courtship, and that is fairly common, but I have never seen a female act aggressively. I have also been able to handle and move males or females with no problems during breeding trials. However, all greens are individuals, and some may act completely differently than others in similar situations.
