Buying a cage for my daughters Dumerils

jusmebabe Nov 03, 2009 12:35 PM

I have aquired a 5 ft female Dumerils Boa for my daughter.
I'm going to purchase a cage this week and needed some info.
How long, high, deep should the cage be? I was looking at 4l 2w 2d.
I know color is a choice but is there a positive or negative with each one?
I'm going to use heat tape so what size and length for a 4x2x2 cage?
Should I get one door opening or the 2 door openings?
Thanx for any advie. I did read hear but not much on the specifics I was looking for..

The four foot cage, I would run 11" heat tape at one end from front to back, so 2' in length. The door style is mostly preference, and I like sliding glass usually. The single piece doors are alright, especially with good tempered animals. I prefer black cages because they don't show the stains of newspaper print as easily as white. But, white cages allow you to notice things like mites a lot easier than the black. If I only had a couple animals and I was going to do a more natural looking cage, I would probably just go with the color that best matches the room the animal is kept in. Nice looking Dumerils!

As a note of caution, make sure she NEVER works with the snake unattended. Dumerils Boas are a formidable predator and need to be treated with respect. My male is smaller then that and once got startled and I had trouble getting him off my hands. I am sure you probably already know this but I feel a need to caution you. They are extremely strong for their size.

It would be tragic if something happened to anyones little girl!!

Thanx for the info. As for handling I'm definitely around when she holds any snakes of larger stature. She's been raised around them so she has a healthy respect for them.

I bought her off CL for 75.00. She was 100 but he gave in to my offer lol.
