Baby Panther Chamy chewing plastic leafs

jwiganosky Nov 06, 2009 02:22 PM

Hi, My name is Julie and I have a baby Panther chamy that has decided he wants to chew on the stuff in his cage, including silk/plastic plants, climby vines, and even a plastic-covered twisty tie I used to attach his climby things. He really goes at these object! As I see him getting fixated on them I try to remove the objects, but he is tenatious. In every other way he seems healthy and happy, gets plenty of water, snaps up dusted crickets and worms, and is active.
Any ideas for me?
I am looking for a big enough real Ficus plant, but I think he will just EAT IT!

Hi Julie...Ficus and pothos are both good for the cham's cage...you should just rinse the plants off with a hose [ or in your shower ] to get any possible traces of plant fertilizer off.The plants will raise the humidity in the cage and are safe to chew on !! Until you get some plants, try getting a veggie clip and putting a leaf of turnip or mustard greens in there....he may enjoy that and leafy greens are full of vitamins calcium.

Thank you. i will try the veggie clamp. I knew Veiled Chamies liked to eat leafy stuff, just never heard that about Panthers.
