New theory on blood "regularity"

boredfoot Nov 15, 2009 03:57 PM

Here's a half-baked theory that seems to be proving itself out with my two bloods: Smaller prey items, fed further apart (every 10 days or so), combined with regular exercise out of the case seems to help my bloods defecate like clockwork. One of the two once went almost a year before pooping. Now, she's every six or so. Sometimes less.

One of the two is an adult, and the other is nearly full grown.

Seems to make sense. Don't get stuffed, move around more and nature takes its course. Fresh water doesn't hurt either.

My two are eating F/T large rats. I think I'm going to stick to nothing larger than that, regardless of how big they get.

Mine are pretty regular like that now also. About the same feeding schedule. Large rats seem just about right and as they grow just feed closer together.

If their adults, you should be able to cut back the amount of food they're eating.

I feed Large rats every 2 weeks, once my supply is up, it's back to mediums every 2 weeks.

I have HEARD of a guy thinking soft water was beneficial in keeping these snakes regular, I haven't had the chance to do try it out yet.

I actually don't even pay much attention to their pooping habits any more, I know they'll go when they need to, and as long as they're eating, I don't worry.

We feed our adult animals small mediums every 7-14 days and in my observations they "appear" to benefit from this type of schedule.

The "GUY" with the soft water theory BELIEVES that the disolved minerals in water adds to the urate load..Activity is a great benefit to the animals regularity IMO..If ya happen to take out and handle your animal[s] on a regular basis I would think it to enhance such..Our animals deficate inside of every 60 days so loads are often small and urates only comprise about 30 %..It's actually not uncommon for us to see defication every 30-45 days..
They'll go pee pee and soak the paper even more often than that..
Unlike the rest of our blood kin folk we feed rabbits to our adults..Varying intervals depending on the status/sex of the animal..We might feed as often as once a week or 3-6 weeks all depends on the game plan for the animal..If an animal is a "PET" than the feeding regimen would be more along the lines of whats been spoke of already..

I have very hard water here in my area and have never seen defecation problems with any of my bloods. They usually go every 4 to 6 weeks on 2 to 3 week feeding intervals with two ex-large rats per feeding. I think the main key is hydration, and with bloods that means fresh water every other day if possible. For some reason bloods are reluctant to drink water that has set more than a few days.
