Permit Help!

zombii Nov 16, 2009 08:48 PM

Hey, I've been trying to get a hold on someone who can help me with my Federal Interstate Commerce Permit before I buy a single Eastern Indigo (Drymarchon Couperi). I've got everything filled out, check made out and everything but now I'm stumped as to WHO I send it to. Do I just sent it to the office in Georgia, or is there an actual person in said office that I address it to?
Do I just send it off to the

U.S Fish and Wildlife Service
1875 Century Boulevard
Suite 200
Atlanta, Georgia 30345

???
I've called the office there and they keep sending me in circles and nobody can answer my simple question. Half the time they keep sending me to my own local Fish and Wildlife number. The other half of the time they send me to this guy who never ever ever answers his phone or returns phone calls EVEN though his recorder clearly stats that he'll be available at xx and xx time.
>.<

Can anyone help me? I just want to make sure that I'm sending this off to the right office/right person.

(Oh... btw, I live in the U.S. if that wasn't obvious)

Agent's name is David Dell who does the D. couperi permitting right now. It changes now and again, but he's been the main guy for quite a awhile.
Enjoy your snake!

David Dell rings a bell. That's the guy they send me to! =.= he never returns calls or answers his phone! EVEN if his little message machine thingie says that he'll be available at xx and xx time! grr!

Welcome to the world of permits. Don't blame David Dell. He has more on his plate than he can realistically do. They don't have a permit biologist and haven't for a while, nor will they have one anytime soon.

So you're finding out about how you need to get a permit, yet you might not be able to get a permit because there isn't someone to give you a permit. I quit working with couperi because of it.

Best of luck

Over the past 3 years I personally have been involved in 10 permit transactions and know several others who have been involved in much more than I. Although they are timely to receive one, I, nor anyone I know or heard of has ever been denied a permit.

I didn't have any questions about the application process itself or about my qualifications. I just wanted to know WHO to send my application to. I've found that if you know who to send it to exactly, there is less of a chance that it'll get shuffled around and lost. I don't want to wait around for months only to find out that my application was lost. I don't know if that's ever happened, but I like to prevent something of the sort. Overly cautious? IDK.

1-Remember that the permit is for the sale, not for the snake. So have a purchase of a specific pair, group or individual from a person with a snake for sale that you are going to make the transaction for.

2-Be prepared to wait. As was said, I don't know anyone denied the permit. I've had to wait as long as 6 months (and just gave up... not denied but outlasted) and had to wait as little as 3 weeks.
