Turtle vs. Snake eggs

snakeeyes1618 Nov 22, 2009 07:38 AM

SO I have bread snakes before and I know what a fertile eggs looks like....My question to you all is there a difference in turtle eggs?

I posted a few threads down about a bunch of turtles that I have acquired. My female laid two eggs a little over a month ago. SO I threw they into my incubator as I would with my snake eggs. I checked on them yesterday and they seem very hard and had no veining when candeled. Usually when snake eggs go bad htey start to mold up. These are still bright white yet very hard.

Are these viable eggs or just infertile?

BTW they are 3 striped muds

Thanks

the eggs of most turtles will look bad if infertile just like snake eggs. yes turtle eggs are a little more hard but keep humid just as you do snakes. The kingsnake, cornsnake, & anole eggs all incubated similar to the various turtle species I breed/bred. For the most part mold or smell will tell you if the are bad.I don't know why but turtle eggs don't seem to candle as well as snake eggs, possibly due to how the embryo developes.

Hey thanks.

The eggs are still very white and look very healthy. I have read that it can take up to 6 months for incubation...I have them at low 80's with high humidity....as I would with the colubrids that i have incubated. I hate the waiting haha
