"is there anything to spark a nice kingsnake style debate here?"

LOL!,...now THAT is too funny Cindy!, I see you have a great sense of humor as well. I guess all it would take is a certain few of those "characters" from over there(one individual comes to mind..LOL!), and it could easily happen, that would DEFINITELY get the ball rolling over here, wouldn't it??..HAHAHA!!

But fortunately, I'm glad not everybody is like some of those....shall we say,....."characters"(to put it overly nice).

Quite honestly as a passive python gal, I am learning a great deal from the debates. And considering I am technically a newcomer (only 15 years around the industry and primarily rescue work) so I am getting to learn a lot of back history. Honestly I wonder how many of us herpers spent time on our high school debate teams in the past.

And hell we are all characters. Hit me up in daytona for a drink and you will see!

Oh yeah, there is tons of valuable info that is constantly being shared. Even though some flat-out refuse to absorb any of it..LOL!

Yeah, it would be cool to meet up in Daytona sometime, maybe even next year.

Excellent point. I plan to be there. Perhaps you can do what Tom Stevens could not and convince me to the dark side of the smaller snakes... Im thinking pythons may not be where its at these days! Oy the laws!

LOL!,...yes, I personally think the colubrid "dark-side" is definitely where it's at(just like Tom). Of course I have also owned many types of boas and pythons in the past too, and even now have a large breeding pair of Colombian Boa's, but the history of exactly "why" I have them now is sort of a long intricate story..LOL!

So many cool patterns and colors in a much more manageable package, just makes colubrids ideal in my opinion.

just some food for thought of course..LOL!

I will admit, when they come into rescue I do get fairly excited. They are an easier placement if they are corns. Kings, well they really arent. Last year I sat on a beautiful MBK for 6 months with NO and I mean NO interest. I did debate keeping it as education.

Right now I have an adorable little rattle snake ummmm kingsnake here. He gives me the giggles. I have a milk snake coming in tonight that needs rehab. I have a lovely little gopher here as well. Perhaps I will shoot some photos and let you all tell me where they came from.

That all sounds very interesting, and giving animals good homes is a very worthwhile thing to do in my opinion. There certainly are far too many that get neglected by people. I'm totally amazed that a nice MBK sat around for that long, wow!. The right people obviously didn't know about that one I guess.

Sure, post some pics, and we can more than likely give some good accurate ID's. But knowing where a certain specimen actually "came" from can be virtually impossible most of the time, unless it is an obvious natural variant of some sort that inhabits a specific range. Identifying a genuine subspecies that hasn't been crossed with something else is pretty easy, but now days so darn many snakes can be a composite of almost anything as you probably already know, that is when accurate identification can go right out the window.

Depending on where you post it(them), hopefully World War III won't break out..LOL!

best regards, ~Doug

Yeah I am a bit the opposite spectrum. The MBK was a very nice animal and wonderful temperment. Of all the kings that have come through here, he was the first I actually considered. Rescue is a whole different world, but I am constantly amazed at what I see.
>>
>> Depending on where you post it(them), hopefully World War III won't break out..LOL!

Pretty much sums it up! LOL If nothing else it will give me something more to work on than merely kingsnake. Color morphs, etc... Im still a python person for all that.

Huh, I merely caught 3 inches of snow. I have never fished for large mouth, only smallies. I did get a 24 inch small mouth once. It was QUITE the talk of the vacation location I was in. The next day when we went out the entire island was in our spot.

WOW!,...yes, a 24" smallmouth is an absolute MONSTER!, I'll just BET everyone was where you were the next day, .....I would be too..LOL!

I also caught an exactly 24" Largemouth(I tape measured it) about a year ago in the same area of lakes with the same fishing partner as yesterday. When he grabbed it by the lip for me in the thick hydrilla weeds, more and more of it kept coming out of the water. We were both in bug-eyed amazement at what a true behemoth this thing was. That was definitely the biggest bass I've ever caught so far in my life.

Great catch Cindy!, that is something you can be proud of the rest of your life...and great sunburn too

Thats the photo, crappy as it is. I do have one framed that is much better. Ahhh the days of actual film. We also have one somewhere with it on the measuring tape. And when we fish, we eat what we keep. I believe it generated 6 lbs of bass meat and fed a group of 7. Hubby says I need to get my hands on a real big northern. I have only caught little ones.
