Hot spot for BW Tegu

shottz Dec 01, 2009 07:06 PM

I recently made a new set up for my BW Tegu and the hot spot (per inferred gun) went up about 10 degrees. The hotspot is now around 125-128 degree, coolside is around 80. I am using Megaray 160w and 100 Watt flood. My question is should I downgrade the flood to smaller or is 125 degree hot spot ok for him? The mega ray and the flood are about 18-20 inches above his hot spot.

I would lower the basking temp to anywhere between 105 and 110 degrees.

Well winter is approaching and my reptile rooms humidty drops to around 20-30% even with sprays, it takes a lot just to keep heat up.

How hard is this going to be on my tegu?

You can try closing the vents in the cage or covering the screen to keep the humidity in the cage. Then place a bowl of water under the basking light. Others humidify the room to bring up the humidity.

I changed bulbs once and temps went to 125-ish in the enclosure of a female B/W. She did not seem to appreciate the extra heat and was quite eager to scratch her way out. Since then I've always tried to keep temps under 110-115.

Your hot spot is OK
But the cold spot is too hot. In the 65-77F is beter.
Try a 60 or 75w flood in place of the 100w
