Biggest cause of RI in Kenyans! Help!

Leland_71832 Dec 05, 2009 06:09 PM

I honestly am puzzled why me KSB's sem to develop RI. I keep a good temp. gradient and a small water container as to not create excessive humidity in the tubs. Any ideas?

What are your temps like? And are you using bottom heat? What's your humidity like?

I am using bottom heat on the adults and back heat on the babies. The probably is about 99 % with the adults. Just took a temp reading and the warm end was 91 and the cool end 84. I do not have individual humidity monitoring so I can't say on that part

I keep my adults with a warm spot of ~98-100F. The cool end is in the upper 70's to low 80's. I keep the water dish on the cool end. You might want to bump the temps up a few degrees...see if it helps. What sort of substrate are you using?

Are you sure it is RI?

Reason I ask is that I had some kingsnakes wheeze. Found out it was the bedding causing a reaction. Put them on newspaper and the problems went away.

in some cases pretty sure but not so sure on others. What bedding caused the problem? I use aspen. Could it be starting out with a piece stuck in the mouth ? I have noticed sometimes the bottom jaw looks as if it has shrunken or receded a little. I welcome all comments on this from everyone!!! Thanks

Could I be misdiagnosing a RI when it really is stomatitis caused by a piece of aspen stuck in the mouth ??? And the fact that some never recover is because I don't clean the mouth?
