Parrot food???

805Ringo Dec 12, 2009 02:34 PM

Is parrots food good for srilankan star tortoises. Reading the ingredients in particular brands seem to be ok. Are there ingredients that are not good for them?

Specially formulated diets for a specific species should not become a large part of the diet of another animal. Although it would likley not be harmful to give a little of the parrot food to Star Tortoises, it should never be a large, or even regular part of their diet. Best to find out what the Stars eat normally in their wild habitat and feed THAT to the tortoises. Good luck.

Yes I agree, just want to vary their diet as much as possible; I hear that is good. It's tough during the winter months. Getting Mazuri tortoise food is a pain- I have to drive from MA to CT. Tortoise food at Petco is limited and expensive. That's when I noticed the ing. in the parrot foot and it smells like Re-Cal's Tortoise food. Thanks.

Yes, it can be a hassle to get these specialty foods. I order Nasco's Turtle Brittle from an online supplier since it is not sold at our local pet stores. Good luck!
