SPIKE...AN EXTRAORDINARY WILD IGUANA

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Dec 25, 2009 12:48 PM

This is a pic of Spike a wild Iguana that lives in my yard. He came here to hang out with my big albino and het. captive Iguanas. For the last year Patty has been feeding him and now he is very tame and bothers us for food when he's hungry. The other day we were having lunch and heard something scratching at the window and it was Spike looking for lunch. Of course we went out and fed him. Over time I have become very fond of Spike and am glad he decided to live here...Here's a couple of pics...LOL

That's awesome. There is a similar green iguana on big pine key. Below is a Spiny that would squeeze through the screen on my rhino iguanas cage to get a free meal, but never tame, and always hitting the road whenever I came into view.

I hope you brought spike inside during the cold snap. Iggy's are dropping from the trees and floating dead in the river here in Ft. Lauderdale. It's a sad sight up and down the river.

Spike sleeps under a heated box and he's just fine. I feel like he's part of my family....He picked his night retreat as he's a smart boy...

Man, that's breaking my heart. One of the cool things about going to Ft. Lauderdale to see the folks is seeing all the iguanas. Let me know if they resurge. We had one like Tom's Spike; it was a large female who would climb up on our deck to wait for endives. I feel she's the mother of all the younger ones that will hopefully still be around.
