tree frog (??) found. need help. pics

psmoore Dec 28, 2009 08:00 PM

Hello. I live in north central Illinois and found this frog in my basement. I've seen it there a couple of times but was able to finally catch it. Was wondering what kind of food, housing etc I would need for it. I've keep various lizards and snakes, so I'm not totally new, but have never kept frogs so any and all help would be appreciated.

Again, thanks for the help.

I think that may be a Grey Treefrog (hyla versicolor or Hyla chrysoscelis). The color can vary from greys to greens.

This general caresheet seems to cover it:

I think you're right. My wife found some information on Wikepedia too. Thanks alot for the link to the care sheet though.

Hi thanx for the replies
Sorry I work ALOT so I don't get on as often as I would like.

This frog, is a tan almost peach color (front/back). Is not as baloony looking as the one in the pic. I have no idea about frogs and don't want to act like I do. The skin is smooth almost wet looking all the time with no bumps. The algae looking spots have developed recently and are the only bumps now on the animal. It lays on on spot all the time and rarely moves. Hasn't eaten anything either.

that looks like a whites tree frog from the indonesa-autralia area.

Grey Treefrogs are the only treefrogs native to your part of the state. They are very easy to take care of (especially if you've kept snakes and lizards).

You can Google "grey tree frog care sheet" and find a lot of information. Their care is the same as that of the Green Treefrog.

that is a grey tree frog i had one the only thing i would do is with the water dish make sure its not real deep maybe add some rocks i had a baby i caught as a tadpole and some how when he was a baby he drown in his water dish =/ other than that just keep him moist mist his cage you might want to treat his water or give him bottled water. good luck =]
