I use hides (rubbermaid sandwich boxes) in all my adult leopard gecko enclosures. Last year I switched from vermiculite to sphagnum moss but might switch back this year.

Its always important to use a hide. They need a place to feel secure. If you can I like having a normal hide and a humid hide. But if it is in a rack only a humid hide is necessary, since its not out in the open like a tank.

It's very important to offer a hide or humidity box for your geckos to help them with a variety of things, including shedding. Dry sheds can be very dangerous for geckos, so def make sure you have a moist hide!

We use small Glad Tupperware containers with a hole cut out and fill it with moist sphagnum moss. It works great and holds humidity pretty good. We spray it down 2 or 3 times a week (as needed).
