Substrate question

timathy Jan 12, 2010 06:06 PM

Hi everyone, we are new to chuckwallas but not new to lizards or tortoises. It is widely known that Uromastyx can be kept on millet. We have a Mali that we have kept for well over a year using millet as a sustrate and it works great. Has anyone ever tried using millet with chucks? We are going to be getting 3 cb '09 red back chucks soon and are trying to get everything in order. Thanks!!

I have had problems with chucks, ESPECIALLY YOUNG ONES, getting impacted quite easily. I usually keep them on paper for the first 6 months then over to sand. The young ones really need a diet high in moisture as they do impact quite easily. A lot of fresh leafy greens.

Thanks. We got our 3 little ones. We have them set up on paper towels. They are a riot! We had no idea how fun they would be.
