Mystery Oil...

00110011 Jan 21, 2010 10:27 AM

Hi all,

There is a video up on Youtube -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRj5MDUXg6E

In it the guy is dripping a kind of oily substance onto the chicks he is feeding to his Drys. I and a few other people have asked him what it is but he doesn't reply.

Does anyone know what it is and why he is using it?

Cheers.

I have just gone to the youtube link I provided to show it to a friend and he has taken the video down. Now i'm really confused as previously to me drawing attention to it the video has been up for months. It was a dark, brown / blackish oily fluid being dripped onto a chick. Any ideas?

I have seen liquid vitamins that were dark and viscous looking. Its also possible if they were WC cribos he was giving them a dewormer. Sounds more like liquid vitamins.

I didn't see the video, but Dry's eat chicks without any need to scent them. Fish Oil, vitamin oils, dewormers. Probably nothing.

If that was my home made hot sauce, that snake will have hair on its chest soon.

It was ceratainly wolfing the chick down like it was BBQ sauce thats for sure

Mind you my Easterns aren't exactly shy feeders by any stretch of the imagination. They will swallow anything even remotely food like.

I remember someone mentioning something about feeding Drys 'mutton bird oil' many moons ago. Does anyone know what this is? or use it themselves? I wondered if that's what it might be.

Cheers, Steve

I think it's Aardvark sauce good stuff give it a try!

Anyway there are a lot of vitamins/supplements that come in liquid form salmon oil, palm oil, cod liver oil, hemp oil, krill oil, kelp oil, could be any of them or a combination of some. I supplement with some liquid vitamins with most my snakes.

Hi Alan,
Was that you? I know you are sometimes reticent to share information on supplements.

Hey Steve,

I had to look up the definition
reticent - Inclined to keep one's thoughts, feelings, and personal affairs to oneself

Yep, thats me.

There is no secret or magic supplement that I use.
A good varied diet and meticulous husbandry go a long way in helping produce 100% fertile clutches.
Fish oil, Krill oil and Salmon oil are all good choices used sparingly. Avoid using any man made vitamin preparations as they can be toxic.

There, I have broken my silence
