Here some shots of a pair of Z's I used to have. I'm sure they are slithering around sideways somewhere....LOL. You can't say these were not some beautiful animals though.

jeph Feb 05, 2010 01:16 PM

Yeah, I do remember. I'm glad that the snake is doing good for you and you found a mate. Best of luck breeding them this year, it isn't that hard and you should have some babys. Take it easy man,
jeff

Jeff,

I don't have them anymore because they cruised around like a drunk as$....LOL. But to clear up what you said in the main forum. I feel the male is a 100% pure martir, it was the female that for whatever reason I didn't feel was pure. To be honest with you, I don't have much experience or seen enough "pure" martir, sh!t, I might not have seen any "pure" martirs and really, not many other people can say they have either...for 100%. It's up to people to believe and or trust if what they have seen or have is real deal. That is one reason I don't chime in on any martir vs. juarez stuff, as I have never seen a martir in the field so don't know 100% what I'm looking at-(not from not lack of effort though). I know it is one of my favorite places to be though-

A couple shots from my first trip in '06-(no snakes were seen, except for a couple DOR's down lower) but I had a good feeling about this spot-

Looking at the Observatory from Vallecitos meadow-

Then on aonther trip, here is home for 5 days-

This last trip, we saw many snakes, but mostly all down lower in elevation. I did find one snake up in the pines and just over 8000ft, which is better than most-

A couple other spots, last year I think I was just a week late though-

On the way to la teserja-

Such an awesome view-

many beers to this look every night as we started cruising, gophers being chopped up, getula and lichanura on the move lower, all around my favorite sierra and look forward to many more visits-

Also, from the dude those snakes came from, he made good on. Been meaning to call you man if you see this,

joecop Feb 04, 2010 10:20 PM

Nice habitat shot bro. Did you happen to take any temp readings while you were there?

jeph Feb 05, 2010 01:19 PM

When you say temp readings...on what...?. Air temps, temp of the rocks on the surface, the soil under rocks on dirt, the temp under cap rock. I got temps logged on finds.

hey Jeff,

beautiful pics. That one on the way to the Observatory looks eerily familiar...(?).

Yeah, I know what you're saying about viewing authentic examples of Martirs. I havent seen a ton, but I've seen about half a dozen in photos over the last decade or so that I believe are, indeed, pure Martir specimens.

I'm impressed that you made it back with your life considering all the drama going on down there in Mexico.....and Baja IS part of Mexico and of no exception to violence. Call it luck or whatever, but you have large cojones indeed brother to be risking it. You must be the Indiana Jones type!

Hey Jerry,
mmm, did I send you A photo before of the veiw from vallecitos meadow...?. Yeah, I've seen pics, and some in person of what were said to be true, even ones you own I saw in person.

I can't from say experience, as I have never herped or visited mainland-(I would in a hearbeat though and plan to soon) but baja, well in the last 4 years I have made over half a dozen trips with just 20 days in total) and have never had a real problem. I'd say I'm an indiana type...LOL, I just love herping and tarveling, especially baja, it is my favorite place to herp. There is random acts of violence everywhere. Here in san Bernardino hell, I feel safer in many areas of BCN and BCS while herping than here, but it's different for everyone. All I know is I can't wait to get back!.

Good luck on those black/white/axanthic whatever z's man, they are cool looking, almost like the island critter.
jeff

joecop Feb 05, 2010 04:56 PM

All the above temps. I was just wondering if you took readings, and you did. I too hope to log in a bunch of readings when I get out to CA for herping. I was just curious to what kind of temps you got where you found them. Under rocks, or in cracks, ect.

jeph Feb 05, 2010 06:28 PM

Hey Joe, I didn't see any Z's in the martirs so no temps to reveal. Honestly, I did my worst job at taking notes last year, and '08. Really, I only take notes in new areas or when things are found a little out of place nowadays. Thanks for the comments,
jeff

Both are pure. That can easily be verified. Really don't know where you wouldn't be sure. Everyone knows (even though it's my fault from the early 90's) that I hate and haven't worked with Martir X Juarez crosses since 1996. I only keep pure Martirs. I also put some martir stuff up on the H.E.R.P. data base and made a smalll Martir post on "That other site" Check it out Jeff.

I still have both snakes. They are thriving in my freezer lol. I froze them as soon as I picked them up from Jeff back in 06. I haven't dealt with or had zonata disease since. I keep them in case they are neeeded for dna testing for anyone that needs martir samples.
